Mock Draft 1.0

Mock Draft 1.0

First Mock Draft of the upcoming NFL Draft

    1.  Cleveland Browns - Sam Darnold QB, USC

No mystery here, this franchise is still in search of its Franchise QB

     2.  New York Giants - Saquon Barkley RB, Penn State

Eli Manning still has a few years left and Barkley is the most impactful player on the board to help the Giants win now.

    3.  Indianapolis Colts - Quenton Nelson OG, Notre Dame

Andrew Luck missed an entire season due to injury so it's time to protect that max contract.

    4.  Cleveland Browns - Minkah Fitzpatrick DB, Alabama

A flexible, do-all secondary player that will help build the back end of this defense.

    5.  Denver Broncos - Josh Rosen QB, UCLA

Denver's QB room is a disaster. Rosen is ready to step in and start week 1.

    6.  New York Jets - Baker Mayfield QB, Oklahoma

The Jets need a team leader and a QB...Mayfield is ready to do both.

    7.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Denzel Ward CB, Ohio State

When you compete in the NFC South you need a pass rush and top notch secondary. Ward is a great fit here.

    8.  Chicago Bears - Calvin Ridley WR, Alabama

The offensive weapon Mitch Trubisky desperately needs.

    9.  San Franciso 49ers - Bradley Chubb DE, N.C. State

Pass rush specialist ready to impact this D line on Day 1.

   10.  Oakland Raiders - Roquan Smith LB, Georgia

The best LB in this class with superb range and pursuit skills.

   11.  Miami Dolphins - Tremaine Edmunds LB, Virginia Tech

One of the worst LB groups in the NFL gets a major upgrade on draft day.

   12.  Cincinatti Bengals - Marcus Davenport OLB, UTSA

High motor pass rusher with a very high ceiling but hasn't faced top notch competitors.

   13.  Washington Redskins - Josh Jackson CB, Iowa

Washington could go in a variety of directions but Jackson wouldn't surprise me here.

   14.  Green Bay Packers - Rashaan Evans LB, Alabama

An outstanding talent to help the rushing defense get stops and get the ball back for Aaron Rodgers.

   15.  Arizona Cardinals - Josh Allen QB, Wyoming

The new starting QB for this franchise to build around.

   16.  Baltimore Ravens - Mike McGlinchey OT, Notre Dame

Flacco has won a Super Bowl before and this pick might get him another one.

   17.  Los Angels Chargers - Vita Vea DT, Washington

A tough, run stopping DT who can also crash the pocket with havoc already coming on both ends.

   18.  Seattle Seahawks - Orlando Brown OT, Oklahoma

Russell Wilson can't run for his life forever.

   19.  Dallas Cowboys - Da'Ron Payne DT, Alabama

Sean Lee is often injured and Dallas can't stop the run without him. Payne eats RBs and spits them out.

   20.  Detroit Lions - Arden Key DE, LSU

Pass rush is how you get to Aaron Rodgers and win the division. The Offense can already compete.

   21.  Buffalo Bills - Billy Price C, Ohio State

The retirement of Eric Wood forces their hand here.

   22.  Buffalo Bills - Christian Kirk WR, Texas A&M

Whoever is playing QB will need someone on the receiving end of his passes.

   23.  Los Angeles Rams - Mike Hughes CB, UCF

A talented player at this position with upside the Rams can't pass up.

   24.  Carolina Panthers - Will Hernandez OG, UTEP

A power run team needs help upfront and assistance in keeping Cam upright.

   25.  Tennessee Titans - Harold Landry, LB Boston College

An aging LB core needs a shot of youth.

   26. Atlanta Falcons - Maurice Hurst DT, Michigan

Falcons could lose 2 players at this position in free agency and Hurst is a Day 1 starter.

   27. New Orleans Saints - Derwin James, S Florida State

Kenny Vaccaro is out and James is a rookie upgrade believe it or not.

   28.  Pittsburgh Steelers - Micah Kiser LB, Virginia

Ryan Shazier's injury opens the door for Kiser to make an early impact.

   29.  Jacksonville Jaguars - James Washington WR, Oklahoma State

With the speed to take the top of defense and help the Jaguars make another deep postseason run.

   30.  Minnesota Vikings - Isaiah Wynn OG, Georgia

Interior Linemen is a need for the Vikings

   31.  New England Patriots - Lamar Jackson QB, Louisville

The future of the Patriots.

   32. Philadelphia Eagles - Connor Williams OT Texas

Carson Wentz returning from injury could use a franchise level OT up front opposite of Lane Johnson.

Welcome to the Closers' Club

Every time I turn on one of those myriad of cooking shows I see people who get up everyday and are excited about the opportunity to create new and exciting food, or maybe, just to remake the same food over and over and over again, but perfectly. You've got your chefs who take the morning market as an invitation for creativity.  On the other hand, you have your pit masters who try daily to perfect the art of the perfect ribs, or the masters of Japan who daily try to make you the perfect miso, or ramen, or roll of sushi.  And even though they've done it 1000x before, they don't mind.  They love it - they don't see what I see when I look at my kitchen: standing for ours, chopping incessantly, the temptation of take-out menus on the fridge.  Cooking for them is an art form. And although I don't understand their love for food, I can appreciate it.  Don't get me wrong, I love food.  Anyone who looks at me could tell I love food. But to be on my feet for 8 hours a...

Ice Cube, Allen Iverson, Dr. J and The BIG3

-Not the NBA, Not the NBA, Not the NBA...We talkin' bout the Big3      Ice Cube has put together a 3on3 halfcourt league with some of the NBAs biggest retired personalities: Stephen Jackson, Kenyon Martin, DeShawn Stevenson, and Allen Iverson to name a few. You can catch these legendary coaches on the sidelines as well traveling to a city near you this summer: Clyde Drexler, Gary Payton, Rich Mahone, George Gervin, Julius "Dr. J" Erving. and Rick Barry. Now I must admit that my favorite player in the NBA growing up was Allen Iverson. A.I. was not just the most visible player of the NBA but he was also one of those generational players that left his mark on the NBA far beyond his play on the court, which wasn't too shabby either. Selected 1st OVERALL in the 1996 NBA Draft at 6ft. flat, the shortest player ever drafted number 1 overall, NBA Rookie of the Year  2000-01 NBA Season MVP, shortest and lightest player to ever win at 6ft. 165lbs 17 NBA Seasons...

FWST Sports Columnist misses point of the fan experience of baseball

Dear Stefan Stephenson of the Ft. Worth Star Telegram, I read your article regarding the "Woo" birds at the Astros game.  For those of you unfamiliar, here's Mr. Stephenson's column . I get that when you write for a newspaper like the FWST, you have to have a certain level of bias toward the home town team.  But complaining about an emerging fan engagement by Astros fans (or any fans) makes you the sports reporter equivalent to Dolores Umbridge.  It's also incredibly tacky to write about a negative fan experience of not liking what fans do because "you simply find it annoying".  From what I understand, you are not even a fan of the wave anymore.   The Texas Rangers have even tried to ban it . In all fairness, I can understand why the wave should be banned.  The wave started when most baseball teams used to play in old concrete donuts like old Busch Stadium, Three Rivers Stadium, or even the Astrodome.  It was fun to start the wave and seeing it ...
